We are planning an amazing trip and can’t wait for it – that’s provided all our permits are in order.
Joining us will be Sue’s son, Tristan, who will be celebrating his 21st birthday and in who’s honour the trip is being organised, my daughter, Cailin and good friends Anne and Brian, Both Sue and Brian will also be celebrating birthday’s around this time so plenty to celebrate.
After gathering in Letlhakane we head up to Maun, which is the gateway to the Okavango delta and one of the tourism hubs of Botswana. From here its up the “western pan handle” of the Okavango via Lake Ngami.
Here we will relax for a few days, the fisherman amongst us can get in some good fishing, excellent birding will be done, boat trips on the Okavango river and possibly a mokoro (dug-out canoe) trip will be enjoyed. Also hopefully some game viewing and relaxation.
Then its up into Namibia’s Caprivi Strip to Katima Mulilo where we will camp on the banks of the Zambezi River. I guess more game viewing, birding, boat trips etc, all the things we hate doing 🙂
Down to Kasane (back in Bots) which we will use as our base to visit the Victoria Falls and Chobe National Park. The area is also famous for it sunset booze cruises, so I guess we will have to try that as well.
Our route home will be broken at Nata, which is on the edge of the Makgadikgadi pans, before returning home (well for Sue and I) and doing a day trip into the pans and to Kubu Island.
I am sure the trip will offer plenty material for further blogs so watch this space.
