Our Efforts in Environmental Education

Seeing kids here in Letlhakane throwing stones at birds or even worse shooting them with pellet guns we realised that there is a great need for them to get environmental education.

Where better to start than with our neighbours. There are 4 kids living next door and even though we have done some education here in our garden, they still felt that they couldn’t kill anything here, but it was fine to do so, when they were at their cattle post in the bush. So we loaded all 4 in our car and headed to Orapa Game Reserve.

Their first lesson, however, happened way before we got to the park, when an empty cool drink can went flying out the window.

Apart from the youngest being car sick twice we had a good day and their keenness to learn was very pleasing to see.

Sue is hoping that this can grow and that we can borrow a bus. We will then approach schools here and see if we can take a whole class at a time. We are also trying to work with the health department here to curb litter in our area.
