It started as a vegetable garden

DSC_0047When we moved up here to Letlhakane in Botswana, and battled to get fresh veggies we started a garden to grow our own.

It soon came to life, but the chickens were eating our plants. We closed off the area with mesh and covered it with shade cloth to protect it from all birds and the sun.

DSC_0019It was doing very well until we rescued a foal and needed a place to keep it, before we moved it to a farm near Francistown. It had become a stable. The vegetables were either eaten or trodden on. (See: https://ourbots.wordpress.com/2012/12/27/what-did-you-do-for-christmas-we-saved-a-life/

The next use for this area was to house baby lark (bird) that we had found with a sore leg. So its third use was that of an aviary.

When we got Onyx, our German Shepard, who has a total disregard for plants and gardens, I realized that I had to save my plants. I did this by placing them in bags and away from where Onyx could get at them – in what had now become “the all purpose area” and at this stage a nursery.

Part of it is still a nursery, but we have cornered off a section to have a place for the puppies. We found an old dog house, which we put into their run, with a cushion and blanket.

We added an extension to it, basically a verandah, so they could have an outdoor shelter from the rain and sun as well. Toys and an old tyre were added for their entertainment. So now we had a dog kennel.

So to recap this area has been a:

  1. Vegetable garden
  2. Stable
  3. Aviary
  4. Nursery
  5. Dog kennel

What will it be next? Watch this space
